Which app is more private?

ToneScribe. Your voice is transcribed on your iPhone or Mac, and your recordings and transcripts stay there. There’s no account, so there’s nothing to sign in to.

Wispr Flow sends your audio to its cloud to transcribe it. It offers settings for model training, cloud storage, and local history.

Do ToneScribe and Wispr Flow work offline?

ToneScribe works fully offline once its speech model has downloaded: on a plane, in a tunnel, anywhere.

Wispr Flow’s dictation runs in the cloud, so it needs an internet connection.

Can I transcribe audio and video files?

With ToneScribe, yes. Pick an audio or video file, or a video from Photos, on iPhone or Mac, and it’s transcribed on your device.

Wispr Flow only transcribes live speech from your microphone. It can’t import an existing recording on any plan.

How do the free versions compare?

Both give you 1,000 words a week on iPhone and 2,000 on desktop.

ToneScribe’s week starts from your first transcription, not a fixed day of the week.

Which app costs less over five years?

ToneScribe Pro is $29.99, once. Five years of Wispr Flow Pro comes to $720 on its annual plan, or $900 paying month to month.

That’s about $690 you keep, at current US prices.

Does ToneScribe polish what I say?

Yes. A local speech model transcribes what you say, then ToneScribe tidies it on your device: it removes filler words and turns spoken punctuation, lists, times, and currency into proper text.

It keeps your words rather than rewriting them. This cleanup currently works in English.

Wispr Flow uses cloud AI to reword your speech to fit the context.
